Learn to Fly Solo

The journey to your first solo takes between 15 and 25 hours of flying depending on aptitude and ability. You must be aged 16 or more and have passed a medical examination with a CAA approved doctor before flying solo. We also expect you to have passed an exam on Aviation Law, best to know what the rules say before you are on your own!

Maybe you’re not certain about progressing all the way to your Private Pilot’s License; but you have set yourself the challenge of flying solo. Once on the ground you will be able to take a few photos to share with your friends to let them know that you have flown on your own.  We can also video your first solo so you can share it with supporters.

Your First Solo

• First five hours are in the Basic Flying Skills Training Course;

• Consolidation of basic flying skills;
• Using the radios to communicate with Air Traffic and other aircraft;

Your instructor will offer you an honest appraisal of your abilities as you progress through the course and get you solo as soon as it is safe to do so. However, your instructor’s prime responsibility is safety for you and others so it will only be possible for you to fly solo once he judges it to be safe.
