The Private Pilot's License Course

So, you tried out the Basic Flying Training Course and decided to go onto your first solo flight. But now you want your Private Pilot’s License. To obtain your PPL you must be aged 17 years on the day of your final ‘Skills Test’. You must also have passed all the written examinations and a practical radio test. Your instructor will help and guide you all the way.

The minimum requirement is for 45 hours of flying training, but most students take 50 – 60 hours to successfully complete the course:

  • Pre-flight briefings and flight instruction that conforms to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) syllabus;
  • 25 hours minimum dual instruction;
  • 10 hours minimum solo flying including a cross country route calling at two other aerodromes;
  • 10 hours of duel/solo flying for skills consolidation
  • Nine multiple choice examinations set by UK (CAA) using the CAA syllabus.
